About / VL.MR

Legacy behavior.
Modern access.

VL.MR—Video Legacy, Modern Runtime—is an independent engineering and preservation collection for games rebuilt to run on current hardware.

What this collection is

Each VL.MR release translates an original game program into a modern runtime and wraps it in a browser-focused experience. The work includes recompilation, compatibility research, controls, saves, display options, documentation, and the practical details needed to make an older game approachable again.

The playable releases are not streamed from a remote machine. The runtime executes on the visitor’s device through WebAssembly.

Completely free, built in spare time

VL.MR is made and maintained by one person, Olim, outside of work and other responsibilities. Playing the releases costs nothing: there is no purchase, subscription, or paid access tier.

What it does not distribute

VL.MR does not provide commercial game discs, disc images, BIOS files owned by console manufacturers, or other copyrighted game data. Players must provide legally obtained source media when a release requires it.

Why the browser

A browser offers a familiar, cross-platform front door without hiding the technical work underneath. A link can carry the runtime, documentation, compatibility notes, and community records while the player retains control of their own game data.

Independence

VL.MR is unofficial and is not affiliated with the publishers, platform holders, or trademark owners of the games in its catalog. Names and artwork remain the property of their respective owners.
